NuStart is both a soft starter and protection device for the scroll compressor in the HVAC/R system. The product uses a current-based motor control to optimize motor start-up for the scroll compressor, in doing so, significant reductions in-rush amperage and motor torque with compressor start-up.

End-user benefits include: reduction in start-up noise and vibration, eliminates light flicker and nuisance circuit breaker trips, reduction in contactor arcing, and less mechanical stress on the compressor and connected refrigerant piping. Furthermore, lowering the in-rush current of the compressor allows for a more efficient start-up with off-grid solutions such as solar/battery systems or backup power sources, allowing the use of a smaller generator.

NuStart provides another level of protection for the scroll compressor in the HVAC/R system. NuStart offers exclusive reverse motor (scroll) protection and under voltage protection to prevent motor stalling at start-up or during operation in low voltage (brownout) events. The single-phase series provides overcurrent protection to the compressor, whereas the three-phase types provide overvoltage protection and reverse motor detection features.

NuStart provides added protection to the compressor – it is NOT a replacement for any primary circuit breaker or an overload protection device.
